Privacy
Analytics and cookies
This page explains how English Attic measures visits, the statistics our hosting platform records, and the cookies and browser storage the site uses. It is not our full privacy policy. For questions or privacy requests, email support@grammarspy.net and mention English Attic.
Google Analytics
- On by default, no pop-up. We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit a few public pages. It runs automatically; we do not show a pop-up or banner and do not treat visiting the site as agreement. You can turn it off under Analytics preferences below.
- Where it runs. Only on home, teacher resources, teaching articles, the games list and support. Moving from one of these to any other page loads the new page fresh, without Google’s script.
- Where it never runs. Lessons, games, practice activities, classes, student work, sign-in, account, membership and checkout pages, protected lessons, downloads and this page.
- When it stays off. If you turned it off below, or your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, Google’s script is not loaded at all. It also stays off if your browser does not let the site read your preference.
- What we send. The page’s address without anything after “?” or “#”, a fixed page name, and only the website name of the page that sent you here. We never send names, email addresses, class codes, account or sign-in details, or any ID of our own.
- Cookies. Google Analytics sets
_gaand_ga_5B293CVMTHon englishattic.com so it can recognise repeat visits from this browser. By default these last up to 2 years and are renewed on each counted visit. - What Google also receives. Like any request to a website, Google receives your IP address and basic browser details, such as browser type, language and screen size. Google says Google Analytics does not log or store IP addresses; it uses them to estimate an approximate location.
- Advertising is off. Advertising storage, ad user data and ad personalization are always refused, Google signals and ad personalization are switched off, and we do not use advertising or ad-tracking tools. Our Google account still allows Google to use measurement data for modelling and business insights, technical support and recommendations; sharing with other Google products and services is off.
- How long Google keeps it. Event-level data for 2 months, and user-level data for 14 months after the last activity.
- Turning it off. Choose “Turn off analytics” below. Analytics stops straight away, including in other open tabs, and the site deletes the Google Analytics cookies it can reach. An “off” you chose earlier on this page still applies.
Analytics preferences
Google Analytics is on by default on home, teacher resources, teaching articles, the games list and support, and uses Google Analytics cookies in this browser. It never runs in lessons, games, practice, classes, sign-in, account or membership pages, and its advertising features stay off. You can turn it off here at any time.
Current setting: Checking this browser’s preference…
Turning analytics off stops it straight away, including in other open tabs, and deletes the Google Analytics cookies the site can reach. We save only that you turned it off; turning it back on removes that note.
Our own page counts
- What is counted. On a few public pages — home, teacher resources, teaching articles, the games list and support — the site adds one to that page’s total for the day. We store only the page name, the date and the running total.
- What we do not store. No cookies are set and nothing is saved in your browser for counting. We do not store your IP address, browser or device details, the page that sent you here, anything after “?” or “#” in the address, or whether you are signed in.
- What the totals mean. They count page loads, not people. We cannot tell visitors apart or follow anyone between pages or visits.
- Where it never runs. Lessons, games, practice activities, classes, student work, sign-in, account, membership or checkout pages, protected lessons, downloads and this page are never counted.
- Who sees the totals. Only the site owner. They are not sent to Google or any other analytics or advertising company.
Hosting platform statistics (separate from our counts)
Our hosting platform (Lovable) offers its own visitor statistics, separate from our page counts. We have switched them off. Since October 22, 2026, the pages englishattic.com sends no longer include the platform’s visit-statistics or event-reporting scripts.
- Before that, those scripts recorded each page visit (the full page address, the page that sent you here, browser type, first browser language and an approximate country), session starts, time on the page, page-speed measurements and technical errors, and set a cookie named
session-idthat expires after 30 minutes. - What we have not yet checked. We have confirmed that the scripts are no longer added to our pages, but we have not yet confirmed in a browser that the platform makes no other statistics requests. The platform and its network provider may still set technical cookies, such as
__dpl(about 24 hours) and__cf_bm(about 30 minutes, bot protection). So we do not describe the site as cookie-free.
Security and hosting logs
Like any website, every request to English Attic — including a page count — passes through our hosting and network providers, which handle technical details such as IP addresses and browser type to deliver pages, block abuse and fix problems. These are operating and security records, not visitor statistics, and our page counts do not read or keep them.
Other browser storage
So the site works, it keeps some things in your browser’s local storage (not cookies): your sign-in session if you sign in, practice you do on this device, and class drafts and recovery copies while you work on a class assignment. None of these are used for counting. Practice you do without signing in stays in your browser unless you sign in and choose to save it.
Fonts
The site’s fonts are served from englishattic.com itself, so loading a page does not contact Google Fonts.
